Safety / EHS Specialist
Job Description
Dexter, a premier manufacturer and distributor of axles, suspension, brakes, doors, venting products, trailer parts and accessories, and towing components serving the commercial trailer, RV, heavy-duty, marine, agriculture, and manufactured housing markets, has an opportunity for a Safety / EHS Specialist at our manufacturing facility located in Fremont, Indiana.
· The Safety/EHS Specialist provides support to the Plant Manager and other leadership through the following duties:
· Maintain a variety of site specific safety and environmental policies and procedures that will ensure all associates are in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including OSHA and EPA standards.
· Drive process improvement to reduce occupational injuries and illnesses, including area assessments, injury investigations and clear, measurable goals.
· Correcting working conditions, using knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, chemistry, psychology, and safety standards, develops loss control programs, and devises methods to evaluate safety progresses.
· Cooperation with spreading HSE best practices across campus, creating best known methods across sites.
· Implementing, and maintaining all Environmental and Safety Management systems in accordance to Dexter standards while reporting to top management on performance and recommend improvements.
· Serving as the interface between local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, corporate and any insurance carrier representatives in order to ensure plant compliance.
· Managing plant’s environmental and OSHA regulatory reporting and record keeping requirements.
· Manage budgets for HSE activities including consulting and testing, waste removal, safety equipment, safety recognition activities, etc.
· Leading investigations on environmental non-compliance, safety non-compliance, and root cause incidents and provide urgent response to operational issues.
· Leading implementations and use of team implemented problem solving.
· Conducting site audits and evaluate plant’s compliance with environmental regulations and identify areas of improvements.
· Managing and maintaining compliance with Corporate HSE Annual Audit by tracking achievement status and gaps of improvement.
· Implementing environmental solutions and drive changes in manufacturing processes/systems that lead to reduction in environmental waste streams.
· Assistance with managing worker’s compensation claims.
· Leading HSE, and awareness program trainings/committees.
· Performing other tasks, duties or special projects as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience and Education Requirements:
- 3 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Education Level Bachelors Degree
- Education Program/ Area of Study Preferred Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering
- Professional Certifications OSHA 10 or 30
